*Inspired by Krista's latest blog.
Elyza has quite the vocabulary and talks all the time. She is also a very good listener, even when you don't really think she is listening. Below are a few fun (well, they are fun looking back at, they were not all fun at the time) little antics Lyza has thrown our way in the past little while since she turned two and became an independent "big girl."
-The other night I was giving Lyza a bath and she wanted me to get her cup for her. I was reading my book and told her, "ok, give me just a second," to which she promptly responded, "mommy, I will give you three seconds and then you will be in big, big trouble."
-I was putting Lyza to bed, which is her least favorite part of the day, and I go to put her blankets on and she sticks her legs straight up in the air. I ask her nicely to put them down: nothing. I ask a little more firmly but still nicely: nothing. I warn her that if she doesn't put her legs down I will go and get Daddy and she will be in big trouble and she sits up and says, "yes! go get my daddy, I want my daddy."
-I was trying to get Lyza to understand that hitting hurts people and that if we love someone we shouldn't hit, yadda, yadda, yadda, and toward the end of the lecture she puts her hand over my mouth and says, "no more talking, mommy."
-Whenever we ask Lyza to do something like say hi to someone on the phone or give luvs goodbye or really pretty much anything, she replies, "I'm grumpy," and that is the end of that.
-We were shopping at the grocery store and all of a sudden Lyza gets a huge smile on her face and yells, "excuse my toots!"
-The other day she was putting her baby to bed and she said, "Stay in your bed, be quiet, close your eyes and go to sleep!"
-If Elyza is in a good mood while we are shopping she will wave and say hi and blow kisses to all around us. On the other hand, if she is in a particularly nasty mood she will enter the store and yell at the first person who pays her any attention, "leave me alone, stop looking at me!" Precious.
-Lyza has been potty trained for a few months now, but has taken a 180 in the past week or so. A few days ago she comes back to me while I am folding clothes and says, "I'm soaking wet." I asked her why and she took me to the kitchen where there was a puddle of pee that I could only imagine had been splattered all over the place because she had been stomping in it.
-One night Elyza was so tired after refusing to take a nap that day and was near to hysterics. I asked her what was making her so sad and she said, "I want to go to Disneyland!"
I love this child. Sometimes she makes me want to pull out my hair like when she gets into the flour and smears it all over the kitchen or when she pulls the toilet paper all over the house while still being attached to the roll in the bathroom, but overall she is a very sweet, very sensitive and loving girl and that makes all the crazy well worth it!

I remember now why motherhood of toddlers is for the very young. You go, girl. She's lucky to have you as her mommy.
And, P.S., I hope you don't mind that I have a good laugh at the expense of your frustrations with Lyza's antics! These toddler stories from Abby and Jeff, you guys and Krista in the last few days have been priceless. Keep 'em coming.
we've all been laughing very hard about these today. i think my favorite are the shopping ones. my Little toots a lot also. probably because she eats so many vegetables. ;-)
These stories are so fun to read! I love them. Thanks for sharing!
So so worth it ! She is a little bit of both of you.....lucky girl! Her "I miss you" or "I love you" makes my day....over and over again.
Jarom and I got quite a kick out of these. Quite a big personality in such a little body. Thanks for sharing. :o)
